Looking for a healthy treat for your dog? Just check the kitchen! Here are some yummy snacks that you can happily share with your pupper.
1. Peanut Butter
Dogs just love peanut butter. Peanut butter is not just a good source of protein, it contains heart-healthy fats, vitamin B, niacin, and vitamin E. Best to buy the unsalted variety that don't contain artificial sweeteners, particularly xylitol, as these substances can be toxic to doggos.
Bananas are not just delicious but are full of vitamins and minerals, such as potassium, manganese, vitamin B6, vitamin C, fiber, biotin and copper. Plus, the soft texture makes it easy to eat. Make sure to throw away the banana peel though, and remember: only as treats. Too much bananas may cause constipation.
A treat full of fiber, vitamin A, and vitamin C, apples also doubles as a natural breath freshener! Just remember to remove the seeds!
As long as your dog isn't lactose intolerant, cheese is a delicious snack for dogs. It's high in protein, calcium, and is easy on the tummy. Just make sure to pick a low fat variety such as cottage cheese. Or, try Himalayan Dog Chews treats which are Yak-milk based cheese.
Yogurt is a great way to strengthen your pup's digestive health. We suggest to pick one that has no sugar or added flavours.
Low calorie and high in vitamin A and fiber. This healthy and crunchy treat is good for both you and your dog!
7. Chicken (and Eggs!)
Chicken and eggs can be given either cooked or raw (just make sure your dog is properly transitioned to raw food!) This can be given during training or added in your dog's meal for extra protein. Just avoid chicken bones as they can splinter and hurt your pet.
An excellent source of dietary fiber, oatmeal can be extra beneficial, especially to older dogs with bowel irregularity issues. When feeding oatmeal, make sure it is cooked and skip the added sugars or flavors.
So, there you have it! Sometimes, the best snacks can be found in your own kitchen. Have other natural treats that are safe for dogs that we have not included? Do share and let us know!
